Position Title: Support Worker

Reports To: Assigned Team Leader 

Purpose of Position: To provide professional and appropriate support and care to clients of Westhaven services in order to support and promote their independence and skill development to LIVE LIFE THE WAY THEY CHOOSE.....

Essential Criteria: 

  • Current valid Drivers Licence 'C'
  • Current Criminal Record Check (obtained within the last 6 months)
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Customer Relationships: Demonstrates confidentiality and awareness of diversity in relation to sensative issues.
  • Team Work: Works collaboratively with team members in the pursuit of team goals, share information, support others, show consideration, concern and respect for others feelings and ideas. Organises own workload.
  • Ethics and Values: Working knowledge of a human rights based approach to supporting a person with disability and the services provided, the individual and community context, and sector and organisation purpose and values. Applies the approach and values in own work that align with those of Westhaven Association.
  • Judgement: Adopts a professional approach to own personal accountability. Maintains organisation's image and reputation
  • Innovation: Undertake tasks using a resourceful and creative approach. Be proactive and self-starting, seize opportunities and act upon them, originate action and actively influence events.
  • Flexibility: adaptable, receptive to new ideas, respond and adjust easily to changing work demands and circumstances.
  • Ongoing Learning: Show a commitment to, ongoing learning and competency development to enable the application of best practice standards in the delivery of support and care.

  • Duty of Care: ability to meet all reporting and policy requirements associated with duty of care for vulnerable individuals whilst balancing the dignity of risk to the client regarding their individual lifestyle and activity choices

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Teritary qualifications in the field of disability service provision or closely related field, at Certificate 3 level or higher is desirable
  • A desire and ability to work effectively with clients who already have complex and/or challenging behaviours
  • Where the applicant does not already hold formal qualifications; is capable across the full range of compentencies required in the areas of the disability service provision and to participate in other professional development activities offered by Westhaven.
