Westhaven is a not for profit, community-based charity organisation, who have been providing support to adults and children and young people with disability within NSW for over 64 years. We have a strong focus on quality, flexible and persons centred disability services.

We are currently seeking casual Support Workers with previous experience with Children and Young Persons (CYP) with Significant Disability. Permanent positions may be offered to the right candidates.

Key Responsibilities

You will be providing hands-on care and support to CYP.

  • Provide personal care as required, according to level of need.
  • Mentoring and skill development - guiding young people to develop independent living skills.
  • Administering medication.
  • Managing complex and challenging behaviours (including aggressive behaviours)
  • Completing clear, concise and factual case notes and incident reports.
  • Work across multiple roster options over a 24/7 period, including weekends, public holidays and sleepovers.

Skills & Experience

  • Hold or be working towards a Diploma in Community Services, Youth Work, Disability, Children's Services, Counselling, Case Management or relevant field or; Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Preferred previous experience supporting CYP, particularly in the area of autism, dual diagnosis and complex trauma and abuse.
  • Preferred previous experience working with CYP with behaviours of concern, (including aggressive behaviours)
  • Preferred previous experience working with CYP with a Residential Out of Home Care Setting/Residential Setting /Respite Care.
  • Strong written, verbal and computer-based communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the service and the CYP we support, this will include a 24/7 rotating roster which includes days, evenings, awake shifts, sleepovers and weekend shifts
  • An unrestricted current Drivers Licence.
  • Current First Aid Certificate HLTAID003 (or be willing to obtain)

Holding a current Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check and completing a National Criminal History Record Check clearance are requirements of this position.
