Westhaven is a not for profit, community-based charity organisation, who have been providing support to adults and children and young people with disability within NSW for over 60 years. We have a strong focus on quality, flexible and person centred disability services

We are currently looking for people that have previous working experience and a sound understanding of mental health. The right candidates will be people who are passionate about supporting participants with psychosocial disability and advancing and empowering the lives of others. 

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide support to participants with a psychosocial disability in maintaining their independence by promoting social, vocational and living skills. 
  • Provide the necessary practical and emotional support to people with a psychosocial disability according to NDIS plans and personal life goals and objectives.
  • Assist in developing  and/or expanding  participants' social relationships and networks in the local community.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders (both internal and external).      
  • Provide personal care as required, according to the level of need.
  • You will support our adults to develop their personal, social and living skills.
  • Work across multiple roster options over a 24/7 period, including weekends, public holidays and sleepovers. 

 Skills & Experience

  • Highly desirable Certificate IV/III level qualification in Community Services and or / mental health
  • Experience supporting people with a background in trauma and mental health.
  • Commitment and passion for the rights and respect of people with a psychosocial disability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues pertaining to psychosocial disability.
  • Demonstrated ability to  handle complex or challenging situations calmly and rationally.
  • Ability and capacity to listen and acknowledge discussion of mental health and disability in a compassionate, non-judgmental way.   
  • Demonstrate understanding of the NDIS. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel if required for training purposes. 
  • Competent written, verbal and computer-based communication skills.
  • Completion of  the 'NDIS Worker Orientation Module" https://training.ndiscommission.gov.au/
  • An unrestricted current NSW Drivers Licence.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Physically fit with the ability to be able to perform manual handling processes. 

We require our people to be both adaptable and flexible for both our participants and their families. The hours of work can vary as we meet our participants ever evolving service requirements. We have multiple roster options over a 24/7 period, including weekends, public holidays and sleepovers.

Holding a current Working with Children Check and completing a National Criminal History Record Check clearance are requirements of this position.
